Even though I’m not crazy about the title I’m a big fan of the Dummies series. This book is well written and through. The reviews on Amazon are all positive, 13 out of thirteen reviews all gave it 5 stars. It offers practical tips and strategies to get your anger under control, so that emotions don’t run you.
If you are struggling with anger issues, Anger management for Dummies would be worth your while to take a look at:
Anger: Handling a Powerful Emotion in a Healthy Way
By Gary Chapman.
Gary Chapman is also the author of another fine book called “the five love languages”. A book that a number of my clients have found very helpful in helping them strengthen their relationship. Chapmans’ belief that “Anger is fed by feelings of disappointment, hurt, rejection, and embarrassment. Anger pits you against the person, place, or thing that sparked the emotion” is an interesting way to look at what makes us angry.
He talks about different types of anger basically justified and unjustified and how to handle those types. Chapmen offer specifics on what to do and what to avoid.
The author talks about where anger comes from and why people get angry. This is a thinking person’s book.
Beyond Anger: A Guide for Men: How to Free Yourself from the Grip of Anger and Get More Out of Life
By Thomas J. Harbin
This is an extremely popular book in the field. This book approaches the issue of anger in a different way from the other two books. It focuses more on understanding and insight than techniques. If you are the type of person who wants to understand something then you will enjoy this book.
Dr. Harbin explains how men’s anger is different from women’s anger and the implication of that difference. The book discusses both sides of this emotion.. The author talks about what he calls the price of anger. How being angry effects the person who is struggling with this issue. How it isolates them and causes deep rooted guilt. Dr. Harbin also discussions about the positive use of anger as well and how without it people are at a disadvantage. He talks about how some people have to be angry to get motivated or how they can’t set personal boundaries unless they get in touch with how anger they feel.
Read this book and you will never think about anger in the same way again.
